PSHE and RSE

Teaching of PSHE

At Coombe Hill Junior School we pride ourselves on delivering a broad and balanced curriculum and this includes a PSHE curriculum tailored specifically to the needs of our pupils.

In September 2020, we launched a new PSHE scheme of work in line with the recent guidance from the DfE.

Our new scheme of work includes a focus on understanding emotions, mindfulness, physical and mental health, respecting difference, relationships and sex education.  The PSHE currciculum is taught by class teachers on a weekly basis and includes discussion, circle time, role play and written activties.

What are our aims for our pupils in PSHE?

PSHE roadmap

Our PSHE lessons can be sorted into three overriding topics:

At Coombe Hill Junior School we use 'Zones of Regulation' in school to support pupils to identify and understand their emotions.  Children are tuaght that that it is ok to be in any of the zones at any given time.

No one is always in the green zone! And that is ok!

It is our aim that all of our pupils will be able to identify which zone they are in. Once they can do this we begin to investigate which specifc emotion thye are experinecing.  Then we teach pupils some useful strategies to help them to self regulate.

You can see an example of a 'Zones of Regulation' assembly here.

Pupils are taught about the 'Zones of Regulation' in PSHE lessons, circle time activties, assemblies and through our Behaviour Regulation Policy.
